Spiral Square Knot Bracelet

This is a really simple yet interesting design you can whip up in a few minutes once you've mastered the classic square knot. The spiral effect is achieved with the small variation in the knot.

  • I’ll be using 50” of embroidery floss for each colour.

  • Choose three colours – two colours you like, and one that you don’t want to be seen. I chose pink and purple as the colours I like and green as the unseen one.

  • Fold you strings in half, lining up the edges. There should be a loop at the other end.
  • Tie an over hand knot near the loop. This will serve as your buckle.

  • Clip your string to a clipboard, pin it to your jeans or tape in onto a flat surface. Put your strings into groups of two. Arrange your strings as 1 – 2 – 3, the second string being the one unseen.

Step One - Take your pink group and make a four over the middle group.

Step Two - Take your purple group and lay it over your pink group as illustrated.

Step Three - Notice the loop made by the pink string. Pull the purple strings into the loop. Pull the entire purple string out.

Pull both strings to the side to tighten. The finished knot.

Repeat that knot using the purple strand as the first string. Make a four shape with the purple.

Take the pink and lay it over the purple.

Pull the pink from the loop completely.

Pull at the sides to tighten.

Repeat all these steps until you reach the length you desire.

This is another square knot bracelet I made using variegated rainbow yarn. Yarn is also a great alternative material, so if you have a bunch of old yarn lying around your house, this is an awesome way to use them up.

Just remember, when you're finished, you can braid the ends so you can tie on your bracelet (Remember that loop we made in the beginning? Now's the time to use it)! I did two braids here because I didn't get to make a loop.

So that's that! I hope you learned something new from this tutorial. If you have any questions, feel free to comment below. Thanks for reading! :)
